Rancho Margot is a beautiful property in the cloud forest near Arenal Volcano. What makes Rancho Margot special are it’s efforts to be environmentally conscious. It generates all of its own electrical power from hydroelectric generators. It has it’s own dairy and produces its own cheese. You can even try your hand at milking the cows if you like.
It grows a lot of the food that is used by its kitchen to create the food that is eaten by its guest as well as the volunteers and interns. You can also help harvest daily. We help picked some greens and were able to show Avinash the process of harvest and delivery to the kitchen and then see those greens at lunch time.
The farm has pigs, chickens and fish and an utterly adorable retriever named Ginger who loves to fetch rocks.
The property heats it’s water using the heat from its compost bins, although, this needs some improvement. The water was luke warm at best.
Oh and they make their own soap using the used cooking oil from the kitchen.
Two daily yoga classes are available daily and all meals are included.
And when you come back to your room after a long day of fun you have towel art waiting for you.
